Enrolling in National Health Insurance (NHIS)

Estimated time: 60 min read

Foreigners staying in Korea for 6 months or longer are generally required to enroll in the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS). Employed foreigners are covered through workplace insurance managed by their employer. Students enrolled at Korean universities should contact their international office for enrollment. Self-employed or unaffiliated individuals enroll as regional (지역) subscribers at the local NHIS branch, with premiums based on income and assets. Bring your ARC, passport, and enrollment documents to the NHIS branch or apply via the NHIS website. This is procedural information only.
